Unread Mail

How many times would you do the following: you decide that friendship is over with someone, and not having the desire to hear, read, or even know about the other person, so you decide to delete every email you receive or hang up the phone or tear up the letter received by post without even bother to know the content?

For some it might be considered as some sort of ignorance, and others see it as some rudeness of behavior. On the other hand, because of that person, the one of us have been put in an a number of awkward situations, so the only action is that a decision to be made not to have contact with that person anymore. It is exactly the opposite to have someone whom you would like to spend more time with and enjoying his or her company.

At the end, these unwanted emails, or posts will only pile up and after a month (if not on the same day) will all be cleaned up i.e. Junk

Never!
There was a time... A few (7-8) years ago when I used to receive letters weekly. And I have never left at least one letter unread.

At the present time... frankly being, I don't find letters in my post-box... The culprit?
No doubts! The INTERNET! No more romance, no more flavored sheets adorned with cute flowers and clouds, no worries concerning calligraphy...

True but sad.
I miss writing letters by hand!

I think im probably to inquisitive to throw them in my junk mail without reading them first.
I also agree with xoxo, hand-written letters are more romantic and harder to part with.

It is important sometimes, to cut all ties with the energy that was between you and another - especially if the relationship became toxic.

It doesn't need to stop at emails.. if it was an ex-girlfriend.. I have rid myself of everything she bought me.. so as to have zero connect with her.

In the case of an old room-mate that was having personal mental issues, and thus caused trouble for me.. I moved out of the apartment and got rid of all emails, and items that she came into contact with.

The things that these people leave their energy on - becomes magnified if it is there for you to ficus on - so get rid of it and get rid of the bad mojo!

You trying to say if she bought you an ipod or a car say, you would get rid of it Jiggins.

The car is a bit of an extreme example.. but yea - that's what i'm sayin.

Gotta part with what brings you back to annoying or painful memories.. I'm a resourceful guy.. So I think I can get rid of a care if i needed to :) I like my stuff - but in the end - it's just Stuff.

Im not sure I would go to such an extreme as to wipe all traces of the person from my life, but then i suppose it would depend on how much they annoyed me.

Well, that is true. I think it happens to everyone. But in my opinion, we better read those mails or emails anyway because things are prone to change all the time, and friends could change too, unless a friend has done something unforgivable, or we are sure he/she would cause some harm in the future too, then we will be even more decisive about what to do. Nobody is perfect. Reading those mails or emails may help us find out something that we didn't know about a friend before; as he/she may have mentioned something interesting or written some justifiable reason for the situation that actually caused this misunderstanding. From my perspective, the top level of forgiveness, is when you feel you wanna revenge, but you end up forgiving.

XOXO, I agree with you, we sometimes miss writing letters. On one hand I am grateful for PC technology because I have a horrible handwriting and typing is a blessing lol

Branwen, as I said to XOXO, I won't think of my handwriting as romantic :)
But I miss writing in general - I used to write some sort of thoughts or diaris 100 years ago

But I understand from you, that you read every single email you revieve?

and IPOD or a car is indeed an extreme example, and that involves a lot of money. I would say: put them on e-bay or markplaats and sell them, sit down for the last time with the ex- and divide the money... this might be a chance to get back together lol

Hi Jiggins, ex-girlfriend or roommate is more "in the house" type of a relationship, which might leave a bigger impact after breaking up, but I was refering to friends, whom you used to enjoy company, share and discuss almost everything, and suddenly there is a misunderstanding irreupts that ruin everything, esepcially that you become accused of something you are not aware of or never heard of. In this case, do you need such a shaky friendship, especially if you forget once and twice and three times? I don't you need to go along with such a situation anymore.

Ali, you make a very good point, I like what you say, but as I mentioend to Jiggins, if you have been misunderstood once and twice then you have no choice but to erase that person and that friendship from your life, because the other side did not appreciate such a friendship.

I don't know, I might be taking things a bit far, but I am saying this based on a concept I do believe in: Friendship is like a diamond that someone should really care for and keep it shining all the time.
